Kaitlin Espiritu is a sophomore at New Mexico State University and right side hitter and blocker for the NMSU Volleyball team. She has been playing both school and club volleyball for the past 9 years. Kaitlin has also coached individual sessions with beginning players and attending Coach Rubio’s open gym sessions where I’ve been able to play alongside some of these incoming athletes who she will be coaching.
“Coaches should motivate their players to exceed their own expectations or internal goals, encourage them to be a team players and work cohesively, and inspire them to persistently play with effort; All while creating a safe and comfortable environment to make mistakes when experimenting with different ideas and techniques,” says Kaitlin. “Being a young player myself, I feel I am able to establish good relationships and create a positive and fun environment while still maintaining the competitive aspect. I find that positive reinforcement and acknowledgment tend to help me feel confident and motivated to get better so I would love to instill that confidence in these young athletes as well.”
